Westport House is the stately home of Lord Altamont, the Marquess of Sligo, whose ancestors include Colonel John Browne, a Williamite-Jacobite War veteran and Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen.
Westport House creates a living documentation of 500 years of history, with 30 rooms on show and three comprehensive exhibitions. Join the Grace O’Malley Experience tour about her life which culminates in the newly-decorated dungeon which also depicts life on board one of her galleons.
Not only can visitors tour the gracious house and dungeon but part of the extensive grounds now contains an exciting Pirate Adventure Theme Park.
Hours of family fun await at Westport particularly for Westport House Pirate Pass holders who can avail of unlimited use of Westport House and Adventure Park rides. These include the Cannonball Run slide, Pirates Swinging Ship and Pirates Plunge log flume ride.
Younger visitors will enjoy the giant Swan Pedalo boats on Westport House lake, board the Westport House Express mini-train, pottery painting or have fun in one of the many playgrounds dotted around the grounds, including the Pirates Den, an indoor play area.
Adventure activities for older children, (eight year olds and upwards) include zorbing, archery, orienteering, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, go-karting and laser combat games.
Family activities include pitch n’ putt, tennis, table-tennis, fishing or why not rent a bike to explore the grounds or further afield, follow the Great Western Greenway route that leads to Achill Island.
Lots of theme days, such as Father's Day Treasure Hunt, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Fest, Bonfire & Fireworks and Winter Wonderland events, are held around the year at Westport House.
