Alan Gaillard Ceramics and Stoneware Pottery Studios are located 2kms from Clifden, County Galway, on the N59 Wild Atlantic Way to Westport. Alan specialises in rustic wheel-thrown and hand-crafted pottery and giftware made from high-fired stoneware clay and inspired by the Connemara surroundings.

His domestic tableware and platters are made for cooking and serving. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe. Alan also builds large castle-like lamp bases, one off pieces and commissions.

Alan’s glazes are made to his own recipes and includes classic dolomite and iron glazes decorated with iron, manganese and cobalt stains. Also, there are beautiful copper and tin reds, which are only possible with the reduction atmosphere used in Alan’s own designed and built LPG kiln.

When time and space allow, Alan is happy to offer one to one pottery tuition in a 3 hour session, depending on the experience and aspirations of the student. This is strictly by appointment.

Gaillard Ceramics was originally produced at Alan’s first studios in County Dublin and then County Wicklow in the 1970s and 1980s. Alan was trained, during his teenage years, by his parents at their pottery studios in Cornwall, Devon and Gurnsey. He came to Ireland in 1969 and set up his first pottery studio in 1972. At that time, he founded and was first Chairman of the Craft Potters Society of Ireland, now called Ceramics Ireland, and has exhibited in many exhibitions.

Alan now has a purpose-built studio workshop and showroom overlooking Streamstown Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way. There is ample parking and wheelchair access.
