St Johns Priory
Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny
The Augustinians established St John’s Priory in Kilkenny City in the 1200s. Much of the structure was left in ruins after the suppression of the 15th century, though the Lady’s Chapel continues to be used for Church of Ireland services.

St John’s Priory is a 13th-century religious ruin found in Kilkenny City. The Augustinians inhabited the priory until the mid-15th century when it was handed over to the state under the rule of Henry VIII.

Over the years, the original structure was mostly destroyed and today, all that remains is the choir. In the 1800s, the Lady’s Chapel underwent renovations and is presently used for Church of Ireland services. It is noted for its many spectacular windows.
