Play Video

Ten minutes from Skibbereen in the heart of West Cork, Cunnamore pier is the departure point for the short four-minute ferry crossing to Heir Island. A magnificent 10-minute walk from your landing and you’ve reached John Desmond and Ellmary Fenton’s Island Cottage Cookery School. Situated in a cosy whitewashed cottage which nestles into the landscape, this culinary school is a perfect example of good goods in small packages.

Courses on offer range from the speciality one-day course for two people where students will focus on one ingredient, to a two-day course for two people where students can invite their friends and families to join them for lunch on the second day. There is also an intensive four-day course for one person where the student gets to work on a one-to-one basis with John.

John will structure your course based on what you want to learn. Whether it’s meat, poultry or fish, you’ll be using the freshest local ingredients. Or if you’ve a sweet tooth, John will pass on his skills in the realm of desserts, pastries and soufflés.

During their (limited) free time students can explore all that Heir Island has to offer from sailing to walking to just taking it easy.
