Beautiful Beer re-brews in 2012

Bratwurst sizzling on a charcoal barbecue, weissbier hissing into cavernous krugs and strains of happy Bavarian mountain song lilting on the Autumn breeze – you must be in Munich, right?

Nope, not this time. This time, Munich and the sweet Bavarian nectar that is weissbier have come to Dublin and made themselves quite at home on the über-scenic docklands.

Beer appreciation is a must. Lederhosen and yodeling are optional.

Famine Ship The Jeanie Johnston

Start the day with a sample of our own liquid legacy at the Jameson Distillery in Smithfield before hopping on the Luas and gliding dockside to begin your day of German indulgence. Before sourcing a huge sausage and tongue-tingling beer make a little visit to the beautifully restored Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship moored close by. Then follow the iconic sound of tooting alp horns to where the beery fun is just kicking off.

Cheers! at Oktoberfest

Music and beer – what is it about them that goes so well together? Leave the chin scratching to the scientists and continue your bopping to mix-master, DJ Udo. You may have heard of happy hour before and thought it to be no more than a tantalizing myth, but in this beer tent the hours of 12-3 Monday to Friday are discount central. Add to that Miss Oktoberfest and Strongman competitions and Dublin’s docklands basically turns into funsville. Only with beer and sausages.

Sizzling sausages at Oktoberfest

Break up the beer drinking with some drama at the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival and a quick bite at Fallon and Byrne. Then it’s back to Oktoberfest for a Bavarian nightcap and a lively debate about which is tastier – porter or weissbier. Try pairing your beer with a giant sausage – it's how they do it in Munich and you’ll want to fit in!
