Built in 2008, Riverhaven is a self-catering, ecotourism development located near Knockvicar, County Roscommon. A family run business, Riverhaven offers personal attention to ensure every visitor has a memorable stay.
Riverhaven comprises four eco-friendly log houses, of which two have four bedrooms and two have three bedrooms. Each house has been built using natural and renewable building materials whenever possible, incorporating innovative building technology and modern joinery techniques. The houses can sleep up to seven guests and include a fully fitted kitchen with all modern appliances and an air to air heat pump system. The comfortable living area has a wood burning stove for those chilly days. There is also an attractively designed balcony that overlooks the living area and a veranda with picnic table, chairs and barbecue in the front.
Riverhaven is located on a working farm with animals. On-site facilities include an outdoor children’s play centre, mulch trail through private forest area, fishing boats with outboard engines, and private road to Lough Key and the Boyle River. A fishing boat can be provided on request and portable bird hides are available for bird watching. Low cost programmes of activities can also be arranged for groups staying at Riverhaven. There is an idyllic 500 metres riverbank walk to the local shop and post office, with pubs and restaurants within walking distance as well.
Surrounding Riverhaven, there are numerous attractions, including a range of historical sites and museums. Visitors won’t want to miss Boyle Abbey, Lough Key Forest Park or Strokestown House, Gardens and Famine Museum. Popular local activities include walking, angling, fishing, golf, horse riding and boating. Riverhaven is the four star sister property of Riversdale, a three star Swedish style eco-lodge located on the same grounds.
