Positioned firmly on the highest echelons of equestrian skills, show jumping and dressage are disciplines that demonstrate the sheer talent and training of both horse and rider. However, this is not to say that anyone can’t try it!
Unlike cross-country jumping, show jumping is carried out in an arena or managed environment so it is usually a safer option for inexperienced riders.
Dressage riding, on the other hand, takes place on the flat and has often been described as the equine equivalent of gymnastics. At the peak of a dressage horse’s gymnastic development, it can respond to a rider’s minimal commands by performing the requested movement while remaining relaxed and appearing effortless.
Show jumping and dressage are the perfect showcases for the strong connection that can be achieved between horse and rider.
