Meet some local Food Heroes

Unveiling some of Ireland’s behind-the-scenes food heroes.

The artisan company Wilde Irish Chocolates is synonymous with a little bit of decadence! In fact, owner Patricia Farrell confesses that the inspiration behind this artisan company is the famous Oscar Wilde quotation, “I can resist everything but temptation”. Eleven years ago, she went in search of a sweet life and landed on the shores of Lough Derg in East Clare making what some people call ‘the last good drug’: chocolate! And so the company was born and with it a range of scrumptious handmade bars and sweets.

Wilde Irish Chocolates has created an amazing array of flavours. From bittersweet cranberry and white chocolate to zingy ginger and dark 70% chocolate, it’s hard to choose which delight to pick.

Maybe the wise thing to do would be to visit the small dedicated team that crafts these goodies. The company now has a dedicated shop in the small village of Tuamgraney, Co Clare, and visitors can experience the aromas first hand, hear the clanking and noise in the background, and taste the latest products in development.

But don’t worry if you can’t make the trip. Wilde Irish Chocolates’ creations are also available at their farmers’ market stalls in Limerick’s Milk Market, Killaloe and the University of Limerick, and their Doolin Chocolate Shop near the Cliffs of Moher. Happy choosing!
