Traditional Culture Festivals
Clifden 200
25 May - 04 June 2012
Venue: Clifden, Galway
Clifden 200 will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the town of Clifden, the capital of Connemara, in 1812 with a series of indoor and outdoor events focusing on the rich heritage of the region.
The majority of events during Clifden 200 will take place at local venues such as hotels, function rooms, bars and the local theatre and library. There will be some outdoor elements also, such as walks and field trips, outdoor market, street party and a traditional boats regatta. Parking is available all over the town centre, and all accommodation providers will be offering special deals to coincide with the festival.
A Genealogical conference will take place for people wishing to trace their ancestry in the Connemara area, and two seminars with some high profile speakers will examine the history and development of the town since its founding.
While the festival is mainly history based, there will be plenty of music and entertainment and activities for families to enjoy. A national schools' programme will also feature, and many activities will be child and family friendly.
