28 September - Sunday 1 October 2017
Venue: All over Cork City
Ireland’s southern capital will once again host a spectacular line up of gifted musicians at the annual Cork Folk Festival.
Taking place across Cork City in the finest venues - including the Everyman Palace and Triskel Christchurch - it's the perfect way to spend an autumn weekend and to catch some of the best and brightest acts in folk music. From legendary songwriter Donovan to the sensational Na Mooneys from Donegal and Frankie Gavin from Galway, there'll be something for everyone to enjoy.
Catch Andy Irvine, formerly of Planxty and Sweeney’s Men, as he is joined by Donegal sisters Tríona and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill. Hear the sweet sounds of no fewer than four trios of Ireland’s finest and most revered musicians in concert: Steve Cooney, Dermot Byrnes and Bríd Harper; Mick Daly, Jarlath Henderson and Cathy Jordan; Colm Murphy, Sean Ryan and Brendan Begley, and Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Nollaig Casey and Mairéad Ní Chathasaigh.
Fans of Rory Gallagher will be treated to a concert by his one-time favourite fiddle player Joe O’Donnell (The Woods Band, Granny's Intentions and Thin Lizzie), and the lineup will continue with Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly, along with Granny's Attic, an exciting new traditional band from Coventry - to name just a few.
The Cork Folk Festival is a four-day music event, packed with Ireland's finest traditional musicians, dancers and singers. Founded in 1979, it has become one of the most exciting folk and traditional music events in the country. Alongside the brilliant performances, there are lectures, workshops, children's events and set dancing to be had. Don't miss it.
