The Galway Film Fleadh is one of the most important events on the Irish cinematic calendar. As an Oscar long-listing festival, a film's good performance here can see it given a nod by the Academy, which, as you might have gathered from the annual buzz around the awards, is a pretty big deal.
Galway Film Fleadh attracts film submissions from around the world to be screened. Shorts, features, documentaries; you can see it all, so varied are the offerings. Often, lauded actors and directors attend the festival, participating in panel discussions and offering attendees the opportunity to ask the burning questions that they have always wanted to ask.
This year's event is set to be a forthright and confident celebrant of the truly great modern cinema that audiences are fortunate enough to be exposed to - the young talents, the elder statesmen and the faces from behind the scenes will all be stylishly celebrated through screenings, discussions and events.
It's going to be all camera, lights, action at the Galway Film Fleadh.
