The Safety Direct Galway International Rally is a round of the 2012 Irish Tarmac Championship. The Headquarters will be at the Clayton Hotel where you will be assured of a warm welcome and excellent entertainment during the weekend.
It is the biggest annual event taking place in the West of Ireland during the winter months, and will be Round 1 of the 2012 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.
On Saturday from 14.30-18.00, see the cars prepare for action at Motorpark, Terryland, Galway. Admission is free.
The official rally start takes place in Eyre Square from 20.00 on Saturday. The top seeds, top historic cars and top local drivers, will all be present. The club has also laid on street entertainment for young and old. Admission is free.
The first competitive timed stage of the rally will be the Dyke Road Spectator Stage. The action commences from 09.30. Excellent viewing will be available from the perimeter of the Dyke Road carpark, and also from the Quincentenial Bridge. Spectators are advised to arrive early, obey the officials and park only where permitted. Admission is free.
The 41st anniversary, of the first ever Galway International Rally which took place in 1971, will be in 2012. It will also be the 22nd anniversary of the Galway Historic Rally. To honour the occasion, Galway Motor Club intends to highlight the historical aspect of their event in 2012 by running the Historic Rally cars ahead of the main field on selected stages of the event.
This is the opening round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship based in Galway City and County. It is organised by the Galway Motor Club, sponsored by Safety Direct, and supported by Fáilte Ireland.
