The Open Air ('Plein air') Painting Competition sees artists from Ireland and abroad take part in a three-day painting event, held in the open air at various locations in the town of Virginia. Artists will be supplied with a map of the local area and given a choice of five locations in which to paint. A prize will be awarded to the best painting at each location. An overall winner's prize will also be awarded for the best painting of the event.
The weekend will feature a traditional Irish music session on the Sunday evening, when the prize-giving takes place. Painting demonstrations will also run during the weekend.
