Benchoona

Benchoona is an idyllic single storey detached cottage situated in its own grounds above the safe sandy beaches of Lettergesh Beach in County Galway. Located on the sea side of the road the cottage is sympathetically furnished retaining original features to provide a warm, cosy and unique getaway.

It has private, direct access to the beach area (1 minute walk). There are truly spectacular views over the islands and Atlantic Ocean from all the main rooms, and Mt Mweelrea and Benchoona Mountain from the side window of the cottage. It is an ideal base for those wishing to simply get away from it all and explore the West of Ireland.

The entrance vestibule (for coats, boots, etc.) leads to the hall and into the dining area. The large living room leads to a glassed-in area, which is pleasant for sitting in on sunny but chilly days. There is one double bedroom (twin beds can be used as two singles or one double) with washbasin, shower and WC en suite; and one twin bedroom. There is also a ‘Nursery’ room which contains a set of bunk beds and two single beds, slepping four. There is also a baby's cot and washbasin in this room. The kitchen has a gas cooker and oven and range of fitted cupboards, a microwave oven, double sink and drainer. The pantry off the kitchen contains a large refrigerator with freezer compartment and a washing machine. There is also a bathroom with bath and washbasin and a separate WC. Bed linen, duvets, pillows and electricity are all included however you will need to bring own towels. There are night storage heaters in the main rooms and an open turf fire in the living room. There is a washing machine but no dishwasher. Outside is a garage, fuel shed and workshop.

A car is recommended although the winding country roads make for good cycling with breathtaking views along the coast. Other nearby activities include: Scuba Dive West is only a 10 min stroll for some of the best diving in Europe, salmon/trout fishing on the door step or sea angling from rocks or boat, there is a community and national park centre at Letterfrack with a good children’s playground & stunning walks (climbing the diamond mountain is a must for young and old), Kylemore Abbey is a 15 min drive, K2 Adverture Centre is 15 mins drive and great for the older children/young adult, Golf is 12kms south of Clifden, Tennis is at the Renvyle House Hotel (which has a short 9-hole golf course too, and Horse Riding) about 10kms away around the coast.

The main town nearby is Clifden, (home of the world famous Connemara pony & beach trekking) 22kms distance, to the south. Westport is about 32kms north in Mayo. There is an Irish Tourist Board Office open in the Summer in Clifden.
