Castletownroche
Cork
Republic of Ireland

Near the village of Castletownroche, just 15km east of Mallow, County Cork, visitors can explore the remains of a 13th-century Augustinian priory, including cloister, kitchen, refectory, chapter house and church.

Alexander Fitz Hugh Roche established the settlement and organized its buildings in a traditional quadrangle. By the end of the century, the monastery was also the primary burial place of the Roche family. In 1540, however, it was dissolved by Henry VIII.

Over the past number of years the site has undergone extensive restoration efforts, and today, it can be visited all year round. There a number of information boards on the site.
