Costello Chapel

This chapel was built as a memorial and burial vault for Costello's wife Josephine, who died two years prior to construction.

It is 16ft long, 12ft wide, and 30ft high. Each side of the aisle holds a coffin lined with lead and covered with slabs of thick reinforced glass. The inscriptions on both coffins can be read with the aid of a torch. The remains of Josephine (1889) and of Edward (1891) are both interred in this beautiful memorial.

Think of it as Carrick-On-Shannon's version of the Taj Mahal.
