Hop Picking at Ballykilcavan Farm and Brewery

Sunday Sunday 6 October 2019
Venue: Ballykilcavan Farm and Brewery

Every autumn, the brewers at Ballykilcavan Brewery make a unique Irish beer using water, barley and hops sourced exclusively from the 380 year old, 13th generation family farm at Ballykilcavan, near Stradbally, Co. Laois. This is the third year of the annual hop picking event where a team is gathered together to select the best, tastiest hops from the hop garden behind the new brewery and then will enjoy a barbeque and a few beers while watching the hops being used to make the 2019 vintage of Ballykilcavan fresh hopped pale ale.

Join in at 10am to get a tour of the hop garden and then help to pick the bittering and aroma hops straight from the bines. The hops will be collected all together, and then brought back to the brewery (which is only 400 metres away) where you can experience the smells, sounds and tastes of a full brew day as the freshly collected hops are added to the beer.

The hop picking lasts about 2 hours and there will be a barbeque lunch and a chance to enjoy some Ballykilcavan beers afterwards. Suitable for all. Please bring wellies or good footwear and a pair of gardening gloves.

This event is part of Taste the Island.
