Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2018

31 May - Sunday 3 June 2018
Venue: Ballyshannon

The Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival takes place across the June Bank Holiday weekend in the small Donegal town of Ballyshannon.

Ballyshannon was when Rory Gallagher was born in the appropriately named Rock Hospital, and 2018 marks 70 years since his birth.

Rory Gallagher is one of Ireland’s most beloved musical sons. As a youth he soaked up any influences he could get from Woodie Guthrie, to Eddie Cochran, to Chuck Berry, becoming a virtuosic guitarist, before forming the rock trio Taste.

After two albums and some success, Gallagher struck out under his own name. For the next 20 years he toured extensively and recorded albums of scintillating blues rock before his untimely death at just 47 years of age.

The festival serves as loving tribute, and features many musicians who played with Gallagher, such as long-serving bassist Gerry McAvoy and drummer Ted McKenna playing in the Band of Friends, Thin Lizzy’s Brian Downey, Wishbone Ash, and many different acts across the four days of the festival.

A true treat for fans of blues and rock, and a great way to experience a beautiful part of the country, whether staying in a B’n’B nearby or camping.
