Spring Equinox Dawn at Loughcrew

19 - Wednesday 21 March 2018
Venue: Loughcrew

The Loughcrew Cairns, perched on top of some of the highest hills in County Meath, are some of the oldest monuments in the country.

The 5,000 year old Cairn T is aligned to the sunrise on the spring equinox, one of two points in the year (along with the autumnal equinox) when there is equal time of light and dark during the day.

On the mornings of March 19th, 20th, and 21st, you are invited to visit Cairn T for the special equinox dawn. The visit will begin at 6am, and include a steep hike in the darkness before the dawn will light up the hilltop before gradually lighting the rest of your surroundings.

It’s quite a special sight, that pilgrims to the cairns have been experiencing for five millennia – but you will need to be prepared for the cold and the climb, so dress appropriately.
