Telling Stories

Saturday Saturday 3 August 2019
Venue: Christ Church Cathedral

London Concord Singers, conductor Jessica Norton, is making its first visit to Ireland, bringing a lively and innovative concert programme themed around story telling, including science fantasy dragons, Celtic myth and Aesop's fables. The music includes two works specially written for the choir, both will be Irish premieres. Robert Hugill's 'The Black Dragon' sets the composer's own story about man outwitting a fearsome dragon whilst Jessica Norton's 'The Dagda's Harp' sets an episode from Celtic mythology for choir and narrator. Also in the programme are Bob Chilcott's engaging 'Aesop's Fables', Anglo-Irish composer Elizabeth Maconchy's vivid animal pictures, 'Creatures', and Benjamin Britten's evocation of Elizabethan England in 'Choral Dances from Gloriana' along with music by Vaughan Williams and Elgar, and a rarely performed melodrama by Richard Strauss.

London Concord Singers is a London-based choir which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Performing regularly in London, the choir's repertoire ranges from Renaissance to Contemporary, and recent performances have included Alfred Schnittke's 'Concerto for Mixed Choir'
