Newport House Hotel is an historic Georgian house built in 1720. Its classical facade looks out over the Newport River, which is a famous place for salmon fishing in County Mayo.

This historic Georgian house provides its guests with an opportunity to experience the elegance and hospitality of an historic county house. The high ceilings and elegant dining room, drawing room and sitting room overlook the garden and river.

The guest rooms, some of which are suited for families, are spacious and well furnished. They are spread out over three houses, one of which previously served as the holiday residence of the late Sean Lemass, Prime Minister of Ireland. When not relaxing in the comfortable rooms, guests can sit down for sumptuous dishes and wonderful wines at the hotel restaurant. The award-winning menu offered at Newport House reflects our use of local produce with fresh fish and shell fish sourced daily. Local beef, lamb, poultry and Irish farmhouse cheeses all combine to provide a sophisticated menu, beautifully enhanced by our internationally recognised wine cellar.

An ideal lodging for avid fishers, Newport House holds the fishing rights to the renowned Newport River, while the Loughs of Feeagh and Furnace are just 20 minutes away. Also, visitors will find many golf courses, heritage sites, walking and cycling routes, including the Great Western Greenway, a 31km, off-road cycling and walking trail from Newport to Achill. Bicycle hire is available through the hotel.
