Located in Clonakilty, County Cork and established over 20 years ago by Jim Turner and Etain Hickey, Rossmore Country Pottery is a family run business, producing ranges of practical domestic stoneware and limited editions of decorated and sculptural pieces.
Jim's work encapsulates bottle, trophy and pod sculpture forms and paint and glaze are applied using brushes and sponges. They are then fired at an extremely high temperature. The finished product reflects the primeval mood of the surrounding landscape.
Etain works with her own blend of paper pulp and white clay to create paper clay. These flat sheets are strong, light and easy to handle in their raw state and can be manipulated to form heads and figures or used flat like a canvass. Persian carpets, iconic paintings and Islamic art are all strong influences for the rich colours Etain uses to finish her products.
Jim and Etain's pottery is sold in 'Etain Hickey Collections', 40 Ashe Street Clonakilty. The shop showcases the best of West Cork art, craft & design. It stocks ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, metalwork, baskets, as well as work from Green Wood Chairs and paintings by a selection of different artists.
The shop is located in Clonakilty, a picturesque town in West Cork. There is plenty to see and do in Clonakilty such as stepping back in time and visiting Lios-Na-gCon Ringfort or Drombeg Stone Circle. Galley Head Lighthouse offers amazing views all along the coast from the Fastnet to the Old Head of Kinsale. The many pubs give a flavour of some of the best Irish traditional music. There are plenty of shops to browse and afterwards you can retreat to one of the many coffee shops or restaurants.
