The Design and Craft Studio
Charleville, Co. Cork
For the first time in Charleville, a centre for local craft from across the Ballyhoura area and Munster takes pride of place on Charleville’s Main Street.

The Design & Craft Studio is owned by Batik artist, Judy Reardon. Judy graduated with a degree in sculpture from The Crawford College of Art & Design in 1992. She turned her attention to batik art in the past few years and while continuing to develop her style opened The Design & Craft Studio in August 2015.

Judy wanted to create a platform where she could sell her own work yet at the same time be able to give local crafters an opportunity to sell their work. She also wanted the opportunity to sell magnificently crafted work by established makers from all corners of the country. The resulting craft shop now has over 40 stockists, selling beautiful handmade craft.

Stockists include Fergus Grant – Stevenson, a silver smith from Lough Gur; Daiva’s Textiles; Fabulous Felt scarves; Susan McCarthy Designs jewellery; Caroline Mitchell Knits; Ceramics by Aoife Slatter and Moonriver Chocolates, all from Limerick. Bagoose Kids Fleece clothes and Olive Murphy Designs are from Cork and Ewesr Felt Prints and Alison Walsh jewellery are from Kerry. All the knitted hats, tea cosies and baby clothes are handmade by local ladies from in and around Charleville. Tea cosies by Pauline McLynn, aka Mrs Doyle in Father Ted, and Artist Brigid Shelly “cowsions” are two of Judy’s best sellers. Why not support local crafts people and in return find that unique gift.

The Design & Craft Studio occupies part of what was once They Royal Hotel. The building dates back to the 18th century. The name remains on the building to this day.
