Based on the the old fit-up theatre system popular in the 1940 and 50s and popularised by the McDowell and Browne families, Blood in the Alley theatre company revived the age old tradition in 2009. The Fit-up Theatre Festival tours high quality professional theatre productions to rural and island venues in July-August every summer.

In 2023 the Fit-up festival will tour to Bere Island, Heir Island, Kilcrohane, Ballydehob, Glengarriffe, Sherkin Island, Whiddy Island and Timoleague from 11 July to 06 August 2023.
