Since its launch in 2015, Irish House has provided those who have an appreciation for authentic Irish crafts and design with the opportunity to purchase quality products at their location on the Diamond, in the heart of historic Donegal Town.
The Mulherns, who founded and own Irish House, are fifth generation hand weavers and have a strong desire to ensure that the centuries-old Donegal tradition of hand weaving is maintained and preserved. All of their Triona tweed is made from 100% Irish lamb’s wool. Once woven, it is tailored to produce pieces of clothing including coats, jackets, and capes which combine quality, achieved through generations of skill and tradition, with fresh, contemporary styles and patterns. From start to finish, experienced craftspeople aim to ensure that all the garments found at Irish House are made to a high standard and are worthy of their Irish heritage.
Traditional hand weaving demonstrations, heritage tours, and educational audio-visual experiences are available daily at both Irish House in Donegal Town and the Triona Donegal Tweed Visitor Centre in Ardara.
The Mulhern family is proud of their Irish heritage and they aim to preserve and promote it by showcasing Irish talent to a worldwide audience through their unwavering support of authentic Irish crafts and design. Irish House proudly stocks the family’s own Triona Design alongside other leading Irish brands such as Fisherman Out of Ireland Knitwear, Aran Woollen Mills, Aran Crafts, Mucros Weavers and Hanna Hats. Visitors will also find quality Irish jewellery including pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets from established brands such as House of Lor, Solvar, Facet and Tracy Gilbert.
