The Dublin Arabic Film Festival (DAFF), presented by Dubai Duty Free, was first established by Oscar Nominated Film Director Jim Sheridan along with Acclaimed Filmmaker Zahara Moufid in 2014, when it was opened by the legendary Egyptian actor Omar Sharif.
Over the last six years the festival has been met with much enthusiasm by international actors and directors who have travelled from all over the world to attend this festival. The attendances during the festival quickly dispelled any doubts that there was an interest in Arabic cinema in Dublin .
In such turbulent times in the Arab World, it is so important to show the creative talent that the region has to offer. Jim Sheridan and Zahara Moufid started the festival to challenge the stereotype of Arab person always cast as a terrorist and to shine a light on the wonderful Arabic Culture and Cinema.
The aim of the festival is to provide a realistic perspective on Arab people, culture, art, history and politics. The festival will continue to serve as an important platform for Arab filmmakers to reach out to a wider international audience.
