Gol (To cry/ weep) features a 5-strong female ensemble and tells the story of the mná caointe, professional grievers intrinsic to Irish life and death for centuries. This evocative, stylised blend of theatrical performance and powerful vocal lament promises to be unique, intimate and darkly humorous.
Audiences will follow the story of Eithne, leader of the community’s caoineadh ceremonies as change comes to her door, threatening the women’s place in society. By James Riordan.
Gol will premiere as a multidisciplinary performance this Dec 9th-12th 2021 at Nuns Island Theatre and Dec 15th in Clonbur, Co.Galway.
