Letterfrack Sea Safari Boat Tours is situated on The Wild Atlantic Way. It sets sail from Letterfrack pier on Ireland's only glass bottom boat.
The one hour tour takes you along the woodland and foothills of Connemara National Park on the serene and tranquil waters of Letterfrack Bay which is known for its mountain views and rugged coastline.
The boat is driven by a local guide who intends not only helps you out with any requirements you might have while on board but will also give you an informative tour and a local insight into anything you need to know about the area.
There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen, which include wild seabirds such as the great black backed gull and the tern who raises its young on a small Island before heading back to Africa for winter, along with many more birds. Letterfrack Bay is also home to the elusive otter and is on occasion visited by the grey seal.
Letterfrack Sea Safari Sea Angling Trips.
Letterfrack Sea Safari offers two hour Sea Angling trips at 18:00 every fine evening aboard their glass bottom boat. All rods, reels and fishing gear are supplied.
The boat departs from Letterfrack Pier right next to Connemara National Park on the main N59 road between Clifden and Westport. It takes you along Letterfrack Bay/Ballinakill Harbour where you can catch fish such as the thornback ray, dogfish and bullhuss. Mackerel, scad and pollock can also be caught when in season.
The trip gives you a chance to take in the scenery of the rugged Connemara coastline and mountainous views that surround Letterfrack Bay. It is an opportunity to take out your flask of tea and picnic basket as the boat anchors up, switches off the engine and floats silently while the rods are set for catching a fish. The expedition takes place on calm waters and is driven by a local guide. Make sure you bring your camera.
Tickets are available at Oceans Alive Visitor Center, Avoca Craftshop Letterfrack and can be purchased on the boat itself before it sets sail. It is advisable that places are booked in advance so you don't lose out on your chance to undertake this experience as places are limited.
The glass bottom boat is fitted out to the highest safety standards and certified by the Department of Transport. The boat is fully supplied with all appropriate safety gear including life jackets, flares, VHF radios etc.
