Each portrait will incorporate needle felted wool shearing taken from each of the breeds. By using shearings from individual breeds incorporated into the artwork the artist will tell the story of each breed into its own portrait, creating an awareness of the importance of Irish sheep wool and the variety of wool and breeds in the country. Work began in May 2019, when the artist visited with the breeders and photographed the family of sheep, Ewe, Ram and Lambs.
Kathy has produced drawings from the original photographs, used design techniques to apply these drawings to material and is completing the beautiful stitching and embroidery on each unique piece.
