Killarney is a popular tourist destination and offers some of the best fishing in the country.
There are numerous lakes and rivers, making it an ideal place to fish. The three main fresh water lakes are Lough Lein, Muckross Lake and Upper Lake. No permits are required for the Killarney Lakes. The main river in the Killarney Fisheries District is Gearhmeen which flows into Upper Lake and is 1.5 miles long.
Salmon run into the lakes in the early spring and the grilse run begins in May. There is also good brown trout fishing on both lakes and rivers.
