Sharing the Tradition: the Munnix dance of Ireland
Tralee, Co. Kerry
30 September - 21 October 2021
Learn the traditional Munnix dancing of North Kerry from the National Folk Theatre of Ireland's Dance Master, Jonathan Kelliher

Centuries ago, dancing teachers toured Ireland, teaching people the steps involved in jigs, reels, and hornpipes. They passed on the traditions by dancing alongside their students, step by rhythmic step.

These days, thanks to the internet, we can learn from dance masters in our own homes.

Sharing the Tradition is an online series of dancing workshops for intermediate dancers. It is taught by Jonathan Kelliher, the Dance Master at Siamsa Tíre, The National Folk Theatre of Ireland. He dances in the unique Munnix style, which originated in North Kerry in the early 1700s. In these workshops, Jonathan will share the history of Munnix dancing with you while helping you to master its steps.
