Calvey’s Equestrian Centre established in 2003, offers beautiful scenic treks, riding lessons and homestay holidays. Nestled at the foot of Slievemore Mountain and the famous Deserted Village, the family run centre has family fun and value foremost in mind. They make pony trekking a great family or individual adventure, whatever the riding experience, they have treks to suit all abilities. Lessons are available for all and children are particularly welcome with lead rein sessions available for the complete beginner to short treks for the more adventurous child.
Homestay holidays are a speciality and are a holiday to remember. Exciting excursions and day trips included in their homestay holidays are very different from any other. Trips include whale and dolphin watching, wildlife walks, fishing trips, learning to play the tin whistle and kayaking or surfing.
With a homestay holiday a programme is put together for each student according to their riding ability, individual choices and length of stay. It is a progressive horsemanship programme with goals for each rider to work towards and achieve by the end of their stay. Host families are carefully selected from the local community and all live locally to the equestrian centre. Children will become a welcome member of the family and will be treated as such throughout their stay.
Calvey’s Equestrian Centre is located near the village of Keel on Achill Island in County Mayo.
