Lough Boora - Mesolithic Loop Walk
Kilcormac, Co. Offaly
Walking Bog
Embrace County Offaly’s captivating landscape on an easy loop through Lough Boora Discovery Park. Home to unique Irish habitats, the 9km Lough Boora Mesolithic Loop treats walkers to views of the Leabeg Wetlands and passes an ancient Mesolithic site.

Taking 2.5 hours to complete, the fascinating Lough Boora Mesolithic Loop follows a trail of bog road and sandy track through the beautiful Leabeg Wetlands and by an ancient Mesolithic site.

One of four delightful walking trails within the Discovery Park, this 9km loop follows the beautiful southern shore of Lough Boora before veering north after crossing the old railway embankment and following the eastern bank of the canal, known locally as the canoe course. Upon reaching the end of the canal, the trail runs south along a ride line in the forest before turning west along a broad access road which leads to the Mesolithic site – said to be one of Ireland’s most important archaeological finds.

With picnic areas and a visitor centre café on site, you’ll have ample opportunity to relax and enjoy the surroundings along the way.
