Shannon, the second largest town in County Clare, with is located just off the N18 National Primary Route from Ennis to Limerick. The town is located on the river Shannon and is bordered by Shannon International Airport and the Shannon Free Zone. Shannon is a relatively new town established in the 1960's. This creates a unique community spirit, which is endorsed by the number and variety of community groups in the town. Along with the GAA, rugby and soccer are other diverse musical, drama groups, chess, tae kwan do, basketball, bowls and bridge. Community facilities are excellent with sporting complexes, library, swimming & leisure complex, golf courses and a rich natural environment consisting of impressive landscapes and natural open spaces. Shannon is the ideal tourist location point and within 10 minutes drive are the famous tourist resorts of Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and Knappogue Castle. Forty-five minutes away are holiday relaxation centres of Kilkee / Lahinch and Killaloe and the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. A major shopping /retail complex in the town centre is nearing completion. Shannon is the ideal tourist location point and is easily accessible from UK, Europe and USA through Shannon International Airport. It is approximately a 20 minute drive from Ennis travelling on the N18. The nearest village, just 4km to the east, is the famous Bunratty with its castle, medieval banquets and folk park. Limerick City is 20 minutes drive travelling on the N18 Limerick bound. If you are coming from County Kerry, the Shannon Ferry is perfectly located connecting Tarbert in North Kerry to Killimer just 50 minutes from Shannon. The Shannon area has good rail and bus connections and a network of roads which are a ideal for the motorist or cyclist.
