The Ox Bindery is a unique conservation and book binding studio in the heart of the Ox Mountains near Tubbercurry, County Silgo. It is run by Benjamin van de Wetering and Ineke Scholte, a Dutch couple, who are specialised in the art of the hand bound book. The Ox Bindery mixes traditional techniques and modern insights whether it's conserving older texts or creating new books from scratch.
Benjamin is trained as a hand bookbinder and conservator in books, paper and parchment, who in Holland, was engaged with conservation and traditional binding. He works for national and local authorities as well as private clients. Ineke concentrates herself on the decorative and creative side of the hand bound book. She creates unique craft and design books in a variety of sizes and shapes which can be seen on the Piggelmee website as well as being for sale on the studio.
Entrance is free to the studio where visitors are welcome to view the studio, browse the eye catching book collection and see conservation in action.
