What is Stay and Spend?

The Stay and Spend scheme saves you money while supporting hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés across Ireland and no, it’s not too good to be true. If you spend up to a maximum of €625 on accommodation, dine-in food and non-alcoholic drinks at participating businesses, you can use your receipts to claim back a maximum of €125 or €250 for a married couple – the perfect reason to plan your dream staycation. The Stay and Spend scheme runs from October 1st 2020 to April 30th 2021, so bring on the holiday fun.

How does Stay and Spend work?

In just three easy steps, you can save up to €125, or €250 per married couple. Download the Revenue Tracker App and upload images and details of your receipts from participating food/beverage/accommodation businesses. All that’s left is to claim your savings through a tax credit on your annual tax return, which you can do from the beginning of 2021.

Who is eligible for Stay and Spend?

You are eligible for the Stay and Spend incentive if you have paid tax and/or USC in 2020. If you have worked this year, paid tax and then were made redundant, you could still qualify as can self-employed people who had to close their businesses during 2020.

When can you claim your savings from Stay and Spend?

For money spent under the scheme between October 1st and December 31st, 2020, you can claim by submitting your income tax return from 1st January 2021. Details of how to save on money spent between 1st January 2021 and 30th April 2021 will be available on revenue.ie in due course. The scheme is valid for transactions of €25 and over in a qualifying holiday accommodation or food and drink provider. This is subject to terms and conditions and you can find more information on revenue.ie.

How do businesses get involved in Stay and Spend?

To be eligible for the Stay and Spend scheme, a business must provide holiday accommodation and/or ‘dine-in’ food and drink services.
