The Castle Park includes all the walled demesne parkland to the south of Kilkenny Castle and the formal terraced gardens to the north comprising a total of 50 acres. Close to the Rose Garden is a central fountain. The estate overlooks the Nore River and features mature trees and shrubs with an ornamental lake numbered among the many items of interest. It is very well maintained and presented.

There is also a children’s playground located on the grounds. All areas of the castle gardens are free of charge.

Kilkenny Castle, the home and headquarters of the powerful Butler family since 1391. Kilkenny Castle boasts both formal and informal gardens including a long-established rose garden to the front of the castle.

Parkland Christmas and New Year Opening Arrangements: The Park will close at 13.00 on Saturday 24th December, with perimeter gates closing from 12.30 and will reopen as normal on Monday 26th December 2016 at 09.00.

Parkland Opening Hours: January and December - 09.00 to 16.00 | February and November - 09.00 to 16.30 | March and October - 09.00 to 17.30 | April and September - 08.30 to 19.00 | May, June, July and August - 08.30 to 20.30. | Please note that the locking of the Park will begin 30 minutes before the scheduled closing time, with the last gate located at the Courtyard area.
