Bere Island is rich in historical importance from a military point of view as well as an archaeological one. Once a base for the British Navy and Army and now the Irish Army use it as a base, Bere Island Lodge can offer guests guided walks or tours. Fort Berehaven will be opened for visitors this year and will bring you back in time. There are two martello towers which are a must and brave the climb and see these spectacular views, next is the well-known walk to the lighthouse, guests will be rewarded with beautiful scenery and then you must find the Bronze Age standing stones. There are two beautiful beaches suitable for swimming. If guests want to explore the coastline of Bere Island from the sea, Seafari is a rollercoaster journey and is a must for the brave. If golf is your choice the ferry takes you to within 3 minutes walk to Berehaven Golf Club, Bere Island Lodge can assist guests with any bookings and information required.
There are restaurants and pubs for you to decide where to go for the evening. Bike hire is available to the public; guests can also avail of the local newly upgraded football field. Other attractions during the year are: World Christian mediation week, silent retreat week, midsummer run, shore angling available, fishing trips available on demand, Bere Island festival, swim week and heritage week, there are also summer camps for children.
