Ghan House is a tree length away from medieval Carlingford, within walled grounds. National Winners 'AA Guest Accommodation of the Year 2020'. It has magnificent views of Carlingford Lough, Mourne Mountains and Slieve Foy.

All double and twin bedrooms have Queen Size or bigger double bed, bath and power shower en suite, mountain views and family antiques. One ground floor room has 'wet room' power shower. The restaurant is usually in the drawing room with views of Carlingford Lough.

In and close to Carlingford has much to offer - cycle hire, Carlingford Lough Greenway, boats trips, Finn the dolphin, Skypark, adventure Centre, Zipline, mountain & seashore walks, Escape Rooms, Heritage Centre, cafes, restaurants, pubs, jewellery makers, boutique shops & much more to discover.

A drive away - seek out 2 of Ireland’s World UNESCO Heritage sites - 5,000 years years old burial site of Newgrange & more interesting - Knowth - follow signs from junction 9 on M1 motorway - 45 minutes from Ghan House. The Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim is a 135 minute drive. For a longer scenic route - cut across onto the A43 from the M2 north of Belfast and head to Cushendall and then follow ‘Causeway Coastal Route’ to The Giant’s Causeway.

Also well worth a drive is Trim Castle & nearby Hill of Tara (65 mins drive). Just 20 minutes drive are The Healing stones at Faughart - just off junction 18 of the M1.

The maze (1 hr away) at Castlewellan Forest park is a short trip across Carlingford Lough on the ferry. Slieve Gullion - 20 mins.

The restaurant has retained 2AA Rosettes since 2011 & has been included in John & Sally McKenna's 'Best 100 Places to Stay in Ireland' every year since 1998. For special occasions, Ghan House has a beautifully proportioned room for private dining, with a magnificent log fire. The menu specialises in local seafood and Cooley lamb and beef. Mussels and oysters are farmed on the lough, a stone's throw from the walled grounds. Lobster from the rocky shoreline at nearby Ballagan also features almost daily. An exciting and innovative six course tasting menu is available midweek and the Main Restaurant menu available midweek and weekend.

Restaurant closed most Mondays (& some Tuesdays). It is advisable to book in advance.
