Glenlohane
Kanturk, Co. Cork
Glenlohane offers charming, family run, country house accommodation in a wonderful historic private house, set amidst parkland in the heart of County Cork.

Glenlohane is a Georgian Country House of architectural significance in a setting essentially unchanged over time. Desmond, Melanie and their son Gordon run Glenlohane as an extremely private house with an air of friendly informality so unique to Irish Country House bed and breakfasts.

Glenlohane Country House was built by Desmond and Gordon's antecedents in 1741 and they represent the 10th generation of the same family living at Glenlohane.

Glenlohane bed and breakfast offers guests one double bedroom and two twin bedded rooms. All bedrooms are ensuite with their own shower and/or bath. There is also a large drawing room, dining room and a library for browsing on a wet day. Log fires are used in the winter months and the house is fully heated in the colder months.

Less than a quarter of a mile away, and still on the farm, is a self catering cottage that can be rented on a weekly basis. While it has been part of Glenlohane for over two hundred and seventy years, the original portion of Glenlohane Cottage may date back to the late 1600's. This charming roadside cottage still retains much of the original features but it is now fully up to date as far as modern comfort is concerned. The cottage is most suitable for four people.

Guests are welcomed on a pre-arranged basis and may use the facilities of the entire house as if staying with friends. Animals play a large part of life at Glenlohane and there are family dogs, cats, and horses and fantail pigeons and hens in the stable yard.

Located among the rolling hills of the upper Blackwater Valley of north-west Cork, Glenlohane is ideally positioned for all activities and sightseeing in the scenic south west. There are numerous historical attractions to explore including Liscarroll Castle, Lohort Castle, Ballybeg Abbey, Kilcolman Castle, Knocknanuss Monument, Kanturk Castle, Mallow Castle and Doneraile Court.

Additionally a short drive away there are many attractions to visit such as the Jameson Heritage Centre in Midleton, The Cobh Heritage Centre in Coby and Blarney Castle in Blarney. For great dinners there are two good restaurants only five minutes away in Kanturk and there is a larger assortment twenty minutes away in Mallow.

Whether you are staying at Glenlohane as a bed and breakfast guest or in the self catering cottage, the experience is for the discerning visitor who wishes to learn more about Ireland's history and culture through personal contact with the owners.
