The Royal Cork Yacht Club has a total membership of approximately 1,800 and annually welcomes a high volume of overseas visitors. The Club is regularly the first port of call for yachts travelling transatlantic. There are a wide variety of sailing activities available from young kids in their Optimist dinghies sailing right through the winter months to the not-so-young kids racing National 18s and 1720s during the remaining nine months. There is also enthusiastic sailing in 420s, Lasers 4.7’s, Laser radials, Toppers and other dinghies. The larger keelboats race on various courses set in and around the Cork Harbour area for club competitions. They also take part in events such as the Round Ireland Race, Cowes Week and the Fastnet Race. In many far off waters, right across the globe, overseas club members proudly sail under the Royal Cork burgee.

In 2011 the Royal Cork became the first Yacht Club in the country to attain the coveted Five Gold Anchor standard for our facilities. This is an internationally recognised standard and all member marinas are promoted to sister marinas http://www.which-marina.com/GoldAnchors.asp In 2013, the Royal Cork became the first Yacht Club marina in the country to be awarded the An Taisce Blue Flag Marina Award and were awarded it again in 2014, 2015 & 2016. www.blueflag.org/menu/criteria/marinas.

The Royal Cork may be almost 300 years old but it is still vibrant, progressive and innovative – just as it was in 1720 when the Club was instrumental in introducing sailing as a leisure activity. It is extremely proud to be the first yacht club in Ireland to attain the Failte Ireland Welcome Standard.
