Townsend House is a 19th century luxurious Georgian house located in the centre of Birr, Ireland's fine heritage town in County Offaly. The guesthouse was completely refurbished in 2003. All rooms are decorated with a Georgian theme and have the finest antique furniture with a mixture of king and queen size beds. All bedrooms are ensuite, complete with direct dial telephone, multi-channel TV and tea/coffee making facilities. There is also WiFi access throughout the premises. There are two large family rooms available where guests can relax in an old world wine bar in front of a wood burning stove and can sample a great selection of wines.
There are two large breakfast rooms which can seat 24 people both with open fireplaces. There is a breakfast bar with selections of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, jams and homemade brown/soda bread. All produce is purchased locally.
Townsend House Tapas and Wine Restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday from 18:00 to 22:00
While staying at Townsend House guests can enjoy beautiful gardens where one can relax in the seating area or walk through the lawn area to admire the great range of flowering shrubs and plants. Guests can also sample some of the organic vegetables from the vegetable garden.
