Set in rural Ireland, the drama centres on Maggie Polpin, a newly widowed mother of four who seizes control of the family farm and business following her husband’s death. Determined to secure independence from male dominance and the dominance of church and state, Maggie challenges traditional expectations of maternal sacrifice while exposing tensions around power, property, morality and family loyalty. As her uncompromising pursuit of control unfolds, it gradually alienates those closest to her, creating a gripping portrait of strength, survival and the emotional cost of dominance within the Irish family.
Big Maggie is directed by Marc Grogan and is presented by arrangement with the Drama League of Ireland (DLI).
