Immerse yourself in the marvellous Clongrennane woodland in County Carlow, on this lush 4km loop in Ireland’s Ancient East.

Part of a townland straddling the border of Counties Laois and Carlow, the picturesque Clogrennane Wood Loop takes just one hour to complete.

An easy walk over a gentle slope, the terrain consists of forest roads and woodland tracks, crossing pleasant bridges and trickling streams.

The trail zig-zags uphill slightly, where magnificent views of Carlow Town and the mighty River Barrow open up.

After your revitalising forest loop, head back to Carlow Town for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.

  • An old woodland that’s had forestry since the 1800s, Clogrennane Wood is dotted with beautiful Beech, Spruce, Larch and Oak trees. Depending on the season, you’ll also spot bluebells, ferns, wild garlic and herb rocket in abundance.
