Matty's Pub & Accommodation, in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, has been run by the same family since 1904, but dates back over 200 years. Refurbished in 2016, it retains the best of traditional country pub life and food, with a modern self-catering apartment attached.

In the charming town of Bagenalstown or Muine Bheag you will find Matty's Pub, also known as the Royal Oak Tavern. This is a proper rural pub, a favourite of locals and visitors alike, in operation for over 200 years.

The pub food includes mouth-watering meals such as all-day breakfasts, ham, roast beef, braised steak, chicken curry and much more. They also have a function room available.

You can stay at Matty's in the 480-square-foot self-catering apartment that is available with modern conveniences and its own entrance. You'll have a full kitchen, free fast wi-fi, washing machine and more.

Matty's is only a 5-minute walk from the River Barrow, with its lovely walking trails, peaceful angling and scenic cycling routes. It is on Stage 5 of the Barrow Way. A 15-minute walk will bring you to the Carlow Brewing Company that gives tours. And Kilkenny town is within easy reach.
