Leader, soldier, husband, father - Major-General Oliver Nugent is best known for his command of the 36th (Ulster) Division during the First World War and particularly at the Battle of the Somme.
To commemorate this and the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, the Nugent 100 committee along with Cavan County Museum have organised a high-level panel of speakers, including Nugent’s biographer Nick Perry, Irish Times Journalist Ronan McGreevy and Fionnuala Walsh, Associate Professor in Modern Irish History, UCD, who will discuss Nugent and The Somme as well as Cavan in World War 1 and how the war affected women in Ireland.
