The Bere Island Heritage Centre is located at Ballynakilla, on Bere Island, situated in Bantry Bay, in West Cork. It is the focal point for the conservation and enhancement of the island’s rich heritage and is home to The Bere Island Experience Exhibition.

Bere Island is steeped in both military and cultural history and is also an ideal location for walking and cycling. The Island is easily accessible by ferry from Castletownbere Town or the pontoon east of Castletownbere.

The Bere Island Heritage Centre has a permanent exhibition that gives an in depth insight into island life, detailing the unique history and lifestyle of Bere Island. It is an important reference, meeting and information point for both islanders and visitors. The Bere Island Heritage Centre also has temporary themed exhibitions on display throughout the year.

There is also a craft shop, café, genealogy books, maps and information on the Island’s heritage sites and walks, artefacts and photos telling the story of Bere Island, a library, access to the St Michael’s Graveyard database and a meeting room for hire.

The aim of the Bere Island Heritage Centre is to make your visit to Bere Island a memorable and enjoyable one.
