Starting at the Village Park walk west through the village turning left at St Patrick’s Church and follow the yellow arrows along lovely quiet country roads, past Trinity Well and beautiful Rathclaren Church. This 9km route has stunning views over the estuary, returning to the village to the Castle Gates via the woodland trail back to the Village Park.
Rathclaren Walk is one of a series of walks in the Kilbrittain Village area. There is also the Castle Walk, Estuary Walk and the Kiln Walk.
Kilbrittain situated midway between Kinsale and Clonakilty in this scenic part of West Cork has many sandy beaches and castles to offer the visitor. It is a mecca for walkers, cyclists, water sport enthusiasts, bird watchers, fishermen and horse riders. The village is home to the skeleton of a 90 foot fin whale, 2 castles, woodland walks, sandy beaches and views to die for. There are ancient churches, old graveyards and holy wells. The sand dunes and the salt marshes are designated areas of special conservation. And there is also a very special 1916 Garden of Remembrance in the village itself.
The playground is especially popular. There is also The McCarthy Maze, The West Cork Secret Garden and The West Cork Equine Centre.
