In 1978, Cork City Council commissioned Eddie Hackett to design an 18-hole golf course on the Mahon Peninsula. This was to be Ireland's first purpose made, municipal golf course and was financially assisted by the Golfing Union of Ireland. Mahon Golf Course, Cork City, was officially opened on 3rd of September 1980. As it is now constituted, the course proves a very challenging test to all grades of golfers. The rolling terrain offers golfers of all abilities an entertaining round of golf and an enjoyable day out. Visitors are more than welcome to enjoy a round of golf at this course, which is close to Cork City.
