A programme of three newly restored episodes from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes silent film series (1921-1923): A Scandal in Bohemia, wherein Holmes falls for ‘the woman’; The Golden Pince-Nez, which features Holmes’ deductive powers at work, and The Final Problem, featuring the sinister Professor Moriarty. The episodes are accompanied by newly commissioned scores by Joanna MacGregor, Neil Brand and Joseph Havlat, recorded live at the Alexandra Palace Theatre.
There will be a video introduction entitled INSIDE THE ARCHIVE: RESTORING CONAN DOYLE’S FAVOURITE SCREEN SHERLOCK, in which the British Film Institute’s Curator of Silent Film, Bryony Dixon, discusses the history of these films and the restoration work involved in this project.
